Following in the footsteps of companies in countless other industries - ranging from luxury cars to diapers - Signal Snowboards recently transitioned to an online subscription business model. One of the next great disruptions to the sport is being led by Signal Snowboards, a snowboard factory located in the notably un-snowy Southern California. From its founding, the sport has prided itself on pushing limits. This was not my intention I simply just disagreed with the tone of your comment, and when I disagree with someone I always feel it's better to explain why.Being disruptive isn’t new to the snowboard industry. Maybe put that glass board into production?Įdit: rereading my comment I realize I may sound like a nit-picky asshole. Something other board companies have not done. WITH THAT SAID - what I've seen so far from Signal looks pretty solid I would definitely give it a shot but as someone who owns more than enough (probably too many) snowboards as it is, I would need something "different" to really persuade me to pick one up. I'm sure it wasn't meant that way but as the founder of the company I feel you should focus on promoting your own brand rather than throwing others under the bus by implying they are overrated ("mainstream") and lacking innovation ("long time doing things the same way"). The tone of your comment almost comes off the same as those "underground" rappers who hate on mainstream shit, but would sell out in an instant were they offered a record deal. This is where the "proven" part of my original comment comes into play. If burton was lacking that stuff, no amount of marketing and sponsorship could keep them afloat. In this industry a company's reputation is built largely around the quality of products and their performance. This isn't the toilet paper industry where performance is a non-issue (if it wipes, it wipes, right?). This last part is entirely unfair to large "mainstream" brands - they too are built with love and dedication. They arent pumping out the same board with new designs for 10 years.Īre you more comfortable buying a mainstream snowboard or do you want something a little more underground and built with love and dedication. They, too, have been constantly innovating and making new products/trying new materials/etc etc. These other brands have been around for a long time doing things the same way.
